Marc Shaw joined the Office of the Secretary of State as Deputy Executive Secretary in September 2020 after completing a two-year tour in Kabul, Afghanistan, where he served as Director of the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs section. During his 20-year career, Marc also served in leadership positions as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. embassy in Banjul, The Gambia and as Political Counselor at the U.S. embassy in Caracas, Venezuela. Earlier in his career, Marc served in Pakistan, Burma, Iraq, Japan, and Honduras. In Washington, Marc previously worked in the Office of the Secretary under Secretary of State Rice.
Marc graduated from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies with an M.A. in international economics and international relations. He completed his undergraduate work in economics at Emory University and graduated from high school at Phillips (Andover) Academy.
