Margot Shoemaker serves as the Acting Managing Director in the Office of Management Strategy and Solutions (M/SS), Consulting and Advanced Projects (CAP) directorate.  CAP addresses complex challenges as an in-house consultant and solution delivery team for all levels of the Department, from offices and posts to enterprise-wide policy and management challenges.

Margot began her career in the Department in 2010 as a Senior Program Analyst in M/SS (then Office of Management Policy, Rightsizing, and Innovation) where she led research, analysis, and program evaluation of the Department’s management platforms domestically and overseas.  She has led initiatives focused on revitalization within the Department, which resulted in the development of the Center for Analytics, the Department’s enterprise analytics capability; she developed the Department’s quality management system, the Collaborative Management Initiative; and implemented the Management Analytics Portal, which enables Management Officers to evaluate post platforms comprehensively.  In addition to working in M/SS, Margot has served in a variety of roles within the Department of State, including work in the Office of the Counselor as a Special Assistant where she focused on strategic planning, coordination, and execution.  She also served in the Under Secretary for Management’s office and the Regional Service Center at the U.S. Consulate in Frankfurt.

Prior to joining the Department, Margot worked in various positions in the private sector focused on corporate management best practices for organizations such as Colgate-Palmolive and Sun Microsystems.

Margot earned a Masters degree from Georgetown University and holds a Project Management Professional certificate from the Project Management Institute.  For all her dedication and achievements, Margot was awarded two Quality Step Increases and multiple Meritorious and Superior Honor awards throughout her career at the Department.
