Dr. Mark Cohen is currently the Chief Medical Officer of the Bureau of Medical Services at the Department of State. He began his State Department career in 2004 as the Regional Medical Officer in Moscow, and has served as RMO in Nairobi and Baghdad, Medical Transition coordinator in Iraq, as the Clinical Director from 2013-2015 in Washington, and most recently as the RMO in London.

Dr. Cohen is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He completed his undergraduate studies at American University, holds a Master’s degree in Genetics from George Washington University, and obtained his medical degree at the New Jersey Medical School. Dr. Cohen completed his internship and residency at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, NY. Dr. Cohen also holds a Master of Public Administration from the Maxwell School, Syracuse, NY.

Upon completing his residency, Dr. Cohen served for ten years as a staff Emergency Physician at Auburn Memorial Hospital in upstate New York before becoming the Director of the Emergency Care Unit for an additional nine years.
