Mark Iozzi
Mark Iozzi is the Department of State’s Bureau of Conflict and Stabilization Operations (CSO) Deputy Assistant Secretary (DAS) for African, East Asian Pacific, and South Central Asian Affairs. DAS Iozzi most recently served as National Security Advisor and Senior Counsel to former House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer. He has vast experience advising congressional leadership on all major foreign policy and national security matters under consideration by the House of Representatives. Previously, DAS Iozzi was the Deputy Chief Counsel for the House Foreign Affairs Committee, where he covered legislation and oversight related to CSO’s work. He was the lead staff member responsible for drafting and negotiating passage of the Global Fragility Act and helped pass numerous other pieces of legislation on issues including counterterrorism, international development, security assistance, war powers, and sanctions. He has also served on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee staff and the staff of Senator Maria Cantwell. DAS Iozzi earned his law degree from Georgetown University and served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Kyrgyzstan during its 2010 revolution, where he helped establish civil society organizations. He is originally from Washington state.
