Mark Pannell is the Deputy Office Director and Senior Advisor in the Secretary’s Office of Global Women’s Issues as of July 2021, where he led the office management and operations, and oversees regional policy and program coordination, strategic planning, and public diplomacy. He previously served as the Country Information Officer in Embassy Brasilia, Public Affairs Officer at Embassy Lisbon, Public Diplomacy Field Director at Embassy Kabul, Public Affairs Officer at Consulate General Rio de Janeiro, Deputy Political Chief at Embassy Quito, Special Assistant and Vice Consul at Embassy Brasilia, and Political Desk Officer at the Office of Brazil and Southern Cone in the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs. Mark began his career at the State Department in January 2003. Prior to joining the State Department, Mark worked in airport operations in China, and in banking and information technology in the Seattle area. Mark has a Master of Science in National Security and Resource Strategy with a focus on Cyberspace and Emerging Technology from the National Defense University (2021) and an MBA in Financial Management (1997). He speaks Portuguese, Spanish, German, French, and Mandarin. Mark is married and has two kids.
