Robert J. Palladino's term ended on January 19, 2021.
Robert J. Palladino is the Chief of Staff to Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Biegun since June 2020. Previously, he served as the Department’s deputy spokesperson, and as director of press and acting National Security Council spokesperson 2017-2018.
A career member of the Senior Foreign Service, Robert has served in a variety of positions in the East Asian and Pacific Affairs bureau. He also has served in China, Vietnam, and Italy, as well as senior advisor to the Under Secretary for Public Diplomacy and national security fellow to Senator Kirsten Gillibrand.
Prior to joining the Department, Robert practiced law in Asia and Europe in the Army JAG Corps. He is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame, the Washington and Lee University School of Law, and the U.S. Army War College. Robert speaks Chinese and Italian.
