
Stephen B. Dietz III's term ended on January 25, 2022.
Mr. Dietz became the Executive Director of Bureau of Diplomatic Security in October 2014.
As the Executive Director, he was principal advisor to the Assistant Secretary for Diplomatic Security and to the Director of the Diplomatic Security Service on all administrative, management, and resource management matters affecting the Bureau. Mr. Dietz oversaw the Office of the Chief Financial Officer, the Office of the Chief Technology Officer, the Office of Management Services, and the Human Resource Management office.
Mr. Dietz previously served as Deputy Director in the Department of State’s Bureau of Budget and Planning from March of 2011 through September of 2014. He concurrently served as the Director for the Office of Resource Planning & Budget Information.
Mr. Dietz began his service in the Department of State in 2002 when he joined the Bureau of Resource Management’s Office of State Programs Operations and Budget, where he established the Resource Strategy & Liaison Division and served as Director through February 2011.
Mr. Dietz is a former Naval Officer and served primarily in the Submarine Service. He also served on the U.S. Secretary of Defense staff, working for the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy in the Office of Drug Enforcement, Policy and Support (Special Operations and Low-Intensity Conflict), and the Director of Program Analysis & Evaluation.
Mr. Dietz graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1982. He also holds an M.S. from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School and an M.A. from the Naval War College.
