Tom Kelsey

Tom Kelsey's term ended on May 27, 2022.

Tom Kelsey is the Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Iran and Iraq Affairs. He is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service. Mr. Kelsey previously served as the Director of the Office of Iran Affairs, the Deputy Director of the Office of Iraq Affairs, and as the Deputy Political Counselor in Baghdad. Other previous assignments include Political-Economic Counselor in Bern, Senior Advisor to the Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, Director of the Panjshir Provincial Reconstruction Team in Afghanistan, and Political-Economic Chief in Munich. He also served on the Germany Desk, as a Special Assistant to the Secretary of State, as a Watch Officer in the State Department Operations Center, and assignments in Kuwait and Athens. Mr. Kelsey has a Bachelor’s degree from Claremont McKenna College, and a Master’s degree in National Security Strategy from the National War College.
