CANDIDATE: Donald Armin Blome

Donald Armin Blome, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, class of Minister-Counselor, is currently the U.S. Ambassador to Tunisia. Prior to that, Ambassador Blome was Chargé d’Affaires a.i. at the Libya External Office in Tunis, Tunisia, Consul General at the U.S. Consulate in Jerusalem, and Director, Office of Arabian Peninsula Affairs in the State Department. He has also served as Political Counselor, Embassy Kabul, Afghanistan and Minister-Counselor for Economic and Political Affairs, at the American Embassy Cairo, Egypt. His demonstrated skills as a senior leader, his regional expertise, and his considerable experience serving in complex environments make Ambassador Blome a well-qualified candidate for U.S. Ambassador to Pakistan.

Earlier in his career Ambassador Blome served as the Civilian Co-Director, Multinational Force Strategic Engagement Cell, Baghdad, Political Counselor, Embassy Kuwait., and as Israel Desk Officer, Deputy Director and Acting Director, Office of Israel and Palestinian Affairs. Other assignments include Iran Desk Officer, Office of Northern Gulf Affairs, Staff Assistant, Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs, Consular/Political Officer, Embassy Amman, Jordan and Economic/Consular Officer, Embassy Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Before joining the Foreign Service he practiced law in Chicago, Illinois.

Ambassador Blome earned a B.A. and a J.D. from the University of Michigan, He is the recipient of numerous Department of State awards and a Presidential Meritorious Service Award. Ambassador Blome speaks Arabic.
