Central Asia has significant potential to increase its tourism industry, which would be a boost to economic connectivity, a major objective of President Trump’s South Asia strategy. However, the lack of adequate infrastructure, investment, and expertise hinder development in this sphere. Journalists from the five Central Asian states will create products that show the positive impact that tourism has on the U.S. economy and learn from experts in the field. They will learn the important role of small business and local government to promote tourism and experience adventure tourism, ecotourism, and outward bound tourism. These products will reach audiences throughout Central Asia to convey a positive view of the United States to stand as an alternative to the disinformation and negative image of the United States in Central Asia.
