On behalf of the Government of the United States of America, I congratulate the people of the Central African Republic and join you in celebrating your national day on December 1.

In the past year, Central Africans have been called to come together and work to build a more secure and prosperous future.  The Political Accord for Peace and Reconciliation has renewed hope that peace is finally within reach.  The road to a peaceful, democratic, and prosperous future will require commitment and sacrifice, and the United States will remain your friend and partner as you move forward.

As you celebrate your national day, I extend my best wishes to all Central Africans in the year ahead.
