Through ENR’s Power Sector Program technical assistance, Nepal’s Electricity Regulatory Commission (ERC) issued three significant regulatory instruments: the Directive on Protection of Rights of Electricity Consumers; the Nepal Electricity Grid Code; and a Key Performance Indicators Manual for Monitoring Performance of Electric Utilities. This move marks a substantial advancement in the regulatory efforts of the ERC and paves the way to improve the reliability and quality of service for electricity consumers and bolster capacity for cross-border electricity trade and regional interconnections. This development comes in advance of MCC’s Compact Entry-Into-Force, which will finance the Nepali portion of a 400kV India-Nepal interconnection — a key milestone for regional power trade. PSP has provided human capital support and capacity building to the ERC since 2020.
