U.S.-Tajikistan Relations

The U.S. established diplomatic relations with Tajikistan in 1992, following its independence from the Soviet Union. The U.S. and Tajikistan have a broad-based relationship, cooperating in such areas as counter-narcotics, counterterrorism, non-proliferation, and regional economic connectivity and security. U.S. Assistance to Tajikistan

U.S. Government assistance to Tajikistan seeks to help defense and law enforcement agencies counter transnational threats, improve local governance and transparency, increase food security and public health services, and reform the education system, particularly focusing on creating opportunities for youth to contribute to society.

Bilateral Economic Relations

Tajikistan is one of the world’s poorest countries, and it depends on remittances and commodity exports that make it vulnerable to global economic conditions. Tajikistan has signed a trade and investment framework agreement with the United States and other Central Asian countries establishing a regional forum to discuss ways to improve investment climates and expand trade within Central Asia.

The Integrated Country Strategy is the four-year strategy articulating U.S. priorities in a given country. The Chief of Mission leads the strategy.

The Investment Climate Statements analyze a variety of economies that are or could be markets for U.S. businesses and provide information on the business climates.

The Fiscal Transparency Report analyzes government transparency and identifies needed changes to improve public spending accountability.

The U.S. delivers COVID vaccines to Tajikistan.

COVID-19 Vaccine Deliveries

Since July, 2021 the United States has donated 4,144,300 safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine doses with the people of Tajikistan. This includes 2,644,200 Pfizer and 1,500,100 Moderna doses. Of the 4,144,300 vaccine doses, 100% were donated in partnership with COVAX.

The United States is committed to leading an international and coordinated effort to accelerate access to safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines to meet global needs. The United States is working with other governments and partners including COVAX, Caricom, and the African Vaccine Acquisition Trust (AVAT) to protect communities from COVID-19 and apply lessons from this pandemic to enhance health security now and in the future.
