The government has undertaken significant economic reforms and gradual democratic reforms over the last several years, including professionalizing the security forces, in part through U.S. assistance. The U.S. and Togo have good relations. The U.S. seeks to work with Togo to consolidate democratic gains and economic growth.
In fiscal year 2017, the U.S. provided $13.5 million in assistance to Togo, including $6 million in health funding and $0.3 million in international military education and training aid. The government is working to expand the port and road network to make Togo a better option for regional transshipment.

Since August, 2021 the United States has donated 1,536,420 safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine doses with the people of Togo. This includes 1,200,420 Pfizer and 336,000 J&J doses. Of the 1,536,420 vaccine doses, 100% were donated in partnership with COVAX.
The United States is committed to leading an international and coordinated effort to accelerate access to safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines to meet global needs. The United States is working with other governments and partners including COVAX, Caricom, and the African Vaccine Acquisition Trust (AVAT) to protect communities from COVID-19 and apply lessons from this pandemic to enhance health security now and in the future.
