Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman met with Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Juan Carlos Holguín today in Washington. Deputy Secretary Sherman welcomed Ecuador’s strong condemnation of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s premeditated, unprovoked, and unjustified war against Ukraine. Deputy Secretary Sherman applauded Ecuador’s commitment, as highlighted during the Summit for Democracy, to promote human rights, combat corruption, as well as assist Venezuelan migrants and refugees fleeing oppression. The United States recognized Ecuador’s regional leadership in tackling the climate crisis and promoting ecological conservation. Deputy Secretary Sherman looks forward to working closely with Foreign Minister Holguín to further strengthen U.S.-Ecuadorian economic and security ties.
