On behalf of the United States government and the people of the United States, I congratulate Guatemala on the 201st celebration of its Independence Day.

The friendship and partnership between Guatemala and the United States is based on shared democratic values and freedoms, a yearning for a better tomorrow for our families, and a desire to live in peace and prosperity.  The United States stands with the people of Guatemala as they pursue a brighter future of prosperity, security, and good governance.  We admire the resolve of Guatemalans as they address our shared challenges, from natural disasters to fighting transnational threats, to overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic with the support of donations of medical supplies and 8.5 million doses of the Moderna vaccine from the people of the United States.  The United States’ commitment to partnership with Guatemala is equally strong.

In the spirit of this partnership, the people of the United States wish Guatemalans everywhere a happy 201st Independence Day.
