On behalf of the United States Government and the American people, I congratulate the people of Guinea-Bissau on your Independence Day.

Since the United States and Guinea-Bissau first established diplomatic relations in 1975, our friendship has only grown stronger.  We are proud to have provided over 300,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses to the Bissau-Guinean people and are committed to our partnership with Guinea-Bissau in the service of advancing health security for all.  We look forward to expanding cooperation with Guinea-Bissau this year on our shared goals of guaranteeing peace and security, building economic prosperity, and strengthening democratic governance.

On this 48th anniversary of Guinea-Bissau’s founding, I wish the Bissau-Guinean people a happy Independence Day and a safe and prosperous year to come.
