Dumitru Daniel Bosogioiu allegedly played a key role in a sophisticated Internet fraud ring targeting primarily U.S. consumers. Based in Romania and other countries in Europe, it is believed that he and several co-conspirators posted false advertisements selling vehicles and other high-value merchandise on legitimate websites. The items for sale did not exist, potentially resulting in millions of dollars in losses to U.S. victims. Bosogioiu was indicted in December 2012 on charges including conspiracy to commit wire fraud, money laundering, passport fraud, and trafficking in counterfeit service marks.
The U.S. Department of State is offering a REWARD OF UP TO $750,000 for information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of Dumitru Daniel Bosogioiu. A reward of up to $1 million is also being offered for the arrest and/or conviction of the alleged leader of the network, Nicolae Popescu.
