Nicolae Popescu allegedly led a sophisticated Internet fraud ring targeting primarily U.S. consumers. Based in Romania and other countries in Europe, it is believed that he and several co-conspirators posted false advertisements selling vehicles and other high-value merchandise onlegitimate websites. The items for sale did not exist, potentially resulting inmillions in losses to U.S. victims. Popescu was indicted in December 2012 on charges including conspiracy to commit wire fraud, money laundering, passport fraud, and trafficking in counterfeit service marks. He is currently listed on the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Cyber’s Most Wanted list.

The U.S. Department of State is offering a REWARD OF UP TO $1 MILLION for information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of Nicolae Popescu. A reward of up to $750,000 is also being offered for information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of an alleged co-conspirator, Dumitru Daniel Bosogioiu.
