The International School of Islamabad (ISOI) is a private, coeducational, college-preparatory day school, offering an American curriculum to students of 27 nationalities. Founded in 1965, the school operates on a semester system.
Organization: The school is governed by a 9-member Board of Directors, 7 of whom are elected for 2-year terms by members of the International School of Islamabad Society, the sponsor of the school. The remaining 2 are appointees of the U.S. Ambassador. Membership in the society is automatically conferred on members of the academic staff and on the parents or guardians of children enrolled in the school. The school is incorporated in the United States as a 501(c) (3) organization; it is also registered under the Societies Act XXI of 1960 in Pakistan.
Curriculum: The curriculum for grades PK-5 is self-contained with specialized faculty who teach art, foreign languages, music, technology, host nation, and physical education. Grades 6-8 are departmentalized with teaching teams at each grade level. The curriculum emphasizes the following subjects: English, math, science, foreign languages, art, social studies, music, technology, and physical education. Grades 9-12 provide a rigorous, 4-year, college-preparatory program. The school also offers special English Language Learners classes and provides limited support for children with mild learning difficulties. The school is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. ISOI is an International Baccalaureate World School.
Faculty: In the 2019-2020 school year, there are 42 faculty members and 3 administrators. Of the total staff, 17 hold Bachelor’s degrees, 27 hold Master’s degrees, and 1 holds a Doctorate degree. The school’s total student to faculty ratio is 7:1.
Enrollment: At the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year, enrollment was 267 (PK-grade 12). There are 23 students in the class of 2019.
Facilities: The school is located on 23+ acres on the outskirts of Islamabad. The campus includes elementary school, middle school, and high school quads, a cafeteria, a gymnasium, a well-equipped exercise room, an auditorium, an open-air theater, tennis courts, a climbing wall, a running track, playing fields, a swimming pool, 2 libraries, and 2 technology centers. The school has air purification units in all classrooms and indoor exercise areas.
Finances: In the 2019-2020 school year the tuition rates are as follows: PK: $11,500; K1: $15,500; K2-grade 5: $22,900; and grades 6-11: $23,900; and grade 12: $25,400. The school also charges a nonrefundable application fee of $150 for PK and $250 for K-grade 12. There is also a one-time development fee of $6,000 for all new students K2-grade 12.
