People: Our Strength

The U.S. Department of State leads America’s foreign policy through diplomacy, advocacy, service, and assistance to advance the interests of the American people—their safety, security, and prosperity. The employees of the Bureau of Global Talent Management contribute to this effort by supporting and developing our people to achieve their greatest potential.  Through every aspect of human capital management, from recruitment to retirement, we recognize the accomplishments of our dedicated workforce who manage the assignments, evaluation, promotion, discipline, career development, and retirement policies and programs for the Department’s Foreign and Civil Service employees and locally-employed staff.

Diversity and Inclusion: Our Commitment

The U.S. Department of State is firmly committed to building a workforce that reflects our nation’s diversity and leverages the creativity of diverse, talented groups to advance America’s foreign policy priorities. To reap the benefits of a diverse workforce, we have built an inclusive workplace in which every employee is treated with dignity and respect and feels empowered to serve the American people. This commitment includes active recruitment, retention strategies, and transparent reporting.

Family Support: Our Community

The people of the U.S. Department of State form a special community, and the organization is dedicated to supporting its needs.  We are committed to improving the quality of life of State Department employees, their family members, and Members of Household who are serving, have served, or will serve at our U.S. Embassies, consulates, and missions abroad.  Our Global Community Liaison Office (GCLO) identifies issues and advocates for programs and solutions, providing a variety of client services for Foreign Service families, and extending those services to overseas communities through the Community Liaison Office (CLO) program.
