Greening Diplomacy Initiative

As the U.S. Department of State represents the nation’s political, economic and cultural interests abroad, it also works to ensure that it continues to project the nation’s values of environmental and sustainable performance in its mission and operations. The Department achieves this with its partners by developing and implementing strategic agency–wide policies and programs; enhancing resource and operational security; deploying and promoting related U.S. technology solutions and commercial interests; and coordinating efforts between management and policy priorities. National Security Decision Directive (NSDD) 38

  • The Under Secretary for Management’s Office of Management Policy, Rightsizing, and Innovation (M/PRI) has the lead in managing requests by U.S. Government agencies for additions, deletions, and changes to their staffing overseas.
  • M/PRI coordinates with agencies and Department of State Bureaus and Missions to assess the resource, security, and strategic goals in placing U.S. Government personnel abroad.
  • M/PRI has developed an interactive, web-based application that will facilitate U.S. Government agencies submitting requests under NSDD-38. To request a logon, click on New User Registration in the Application Log-On box on the first page, fill in the requested information, and click submit.  Once your logon request is approved you will receive a temporary password that you will change once you log back into the website.
