On behalf of the United States of America, I congratulate the people of Lithuania as you celebrate your independence.

In the face of today’s global challenges, the United States stands firm in our close relationship with Lithuania, a strong NATO Ally and EU partner.  Together, we deter and defend against threats to our sovereignty and security, continue our robust cooperation in advancing human rights globally, and act resolutely in response to actions by those who seek to repress fundamental freedoms, undermine democracy, and engage in economic coercion.  We also stand together in defending our values and economies against attempts to undermine the international rules-based order.

In 2022, the United States proudly commemorates 100 years of uninterrupted diplomatic relations with Lithuania, a milestone that underscores our enduring friendship and vibrant people-to-people ties.  As we expand our partnership during the next century of our relationship, we look forward to deepening our collaboration to strengthen the Transatlantic ties that benefit our peoples.

I join you in celebrating this anniversary and send best wishes for health and prosperity to all Lithuanians.
