State Magazine December 2017 Issue Is Now Available!

December 1, 2017

Embassy Mbabane is the December Post of the Month. State Magazine’s Isaac D. Pacheco provides a first-hand report on Swaziland’s enduring struggle with the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Thanks in large part to the embassy’s public health outreach, an HIV diagnosis is no longer the death sentence it was a decade ago. Epidemic control is now within reach.

In “Better Borders,” Lester Asamoah recounts how Embassy Hanoi leveraged its diplomatic and military resources to augment Vietnam’s maritime security.

Unbeknownst to many, the Department volunteers assisted in disaster relief efforts to bolster the federal response to Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria. In “Storm Surge,” Lynda Kasonde, of the Office of Emergency Management, details Department recovery efforts in Puerto Rico.
