The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) 73
The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) is the largest regularly-scheduled diplomatic gathering in the world. UNGA requires close coordination between local, federal, and international security organizations.
The Diplomatic Security Service (DSS) provides security support for scores of visiting dignitaries at this annual event in New York City.
In 2018, more than 750 DSS personnel supported security operations, including over 400 DSS special agents who provided protective security for more than 40 visiting foreign dignitaries, the U.S. Secretary of State, and the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations during UNGA.
DSS Uniformed Protection Division officers, Mobile Security Deployments teams, security engineering officers, security technical specialists, IT professionals, secure communications specialists, and others were part of the DSS effort at UNGA 73.
DSS worked with more than a dozen U.S. federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to secure the New York City area during UNGA 73, including the New York Police Department, the U.S. Marshals Service, FBI, ATF, and U.S. military explosives ordnance canine teams.
