Jorge Orlando Rodriguez-Acero, was a former Colombian National Police (CNP) Lieutenant/officer who was known to travel to Mexico and Spain to manage or coordinate multi-ton cocaine shipments from the Cali, Valle del Cauca, and Pacific coast regions of Colombia to the U.S., Mexico, and Spain. Rodriguez-Acero was also the owner and operator of Hemisfero Tours, a company in Cali, Colombia. U.S. law enforcement information indicates that Rodriguez-Acero was very dangerous, having been personally associated with several assassinations conducted on behalf of drug traffickers.
Judicial status: On March 11, 2004, a federal grand jury in Washington D.C. indicted Rodriguez-Acero on drug trafficking and RICO charges stemming from his leadership of the North Valle Cartel. According to the indictment, the North Valle Cartel exported approximately 500 metric tons of cocaine worth in excess of $10 billion to the U.S. between 1990 and 2004. An indictment was returned, by a federal grand jury in the District of Columbia, charging Rodriguez-Acero with RICO violations. The indictment was unsealed in May 2004, and a provisional arrest warrant issued based upon these charges. U.S. and Colombian law enforcement officials believe that Rodriguez-Acero was killed by rival drug traffickers earlier this year.
