Edgar Guillermo Vallejo-Guarin led one of the most notorious and violent narcotics trafficking networks operating in South America. Vallejo-Guarin has an extensive history of violence, money laundering, and the corruption of high-level government officials. In June 2001, Vallejo-Guarin was indicted in the Southern District of Florida for heading and operating a continuing criminal enterprise. The indictment alleged that Vallejo-Guarin was a major Colombian cocaine source of supply to the United States from approximately 1990 to 1999, and was responsible for numerous multi-ton maritime shipments of cocaine to the U.S. (especially to the West Coast of Florida and Miami) and Europe. He has extensive ties to Venezuela and Spain. Vallejo-Guarin is also a suspect in several drug related murders.

On September 4, 2008, Spanish authorities arrested Vallejo-Guarin in Madrid, Spain.
