Kevin Edward Moley
Ambassador Kevin Edward Moley was nominated by President Donald J. Trump to serve as Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs on January 8, 2018 and confirmed by the United States Senate with unanimous consent on March 22, 2018. Assistant Secretary Ambassador Moley previously served as Permanent Representative of the United States to the Office of the United Nations and Other International Organizations in Geneva, Switzerland, with the rank of Ambassador (2001-2006). In that role, Ambassador Moley guided America’s largest overseas multilateral diplomatic post and led U.S. diplomatic engagement with over 40 major international organizations including the World Health Organization, U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees, U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights, World Intellectual Property Organization, International Telecommunication Organization, International Committee of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, and more.
Ambassador Moley’s prior political service featured appointments as Deputy Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (1992-1993), Assistant Secretary for Management and Budget, Department of Health and Human Services (1989-1992), and in senior positions in the Health Care Financing Administration (1984-1988). Ambassador Moley was also appointed to several Federal Government commissions, including serving as Vice Chairman of the President’s Council on Management Improvement (1989-1991).
Ambassador Moley’s humanitarian service includes Chairman of the Board of Project Concern International (PCI), a non-profit, humanitarian that reaches nearly 19 million people a year through programs in Asia, Africa, and the Americas to ensure clean water, improve maternal and child health. Under Ambassador’s leadership PCI helped fight malnutrition in some of the most vulnerable rural areas in the world, bringing nutritious school-based meals to over 200,000 children every day.
Though Ambassador Moley’s political and humanitarian service is significant, he is most proud of his military service, having served honorably in the Marine Corps as a Sgt. (E-5), receiving a Purple Heart and a Navy Commendation Medal w/Combat V (Valor).
Ambassador Moley and his wife, Dorothy, have one son and reside in Scottsdale, Arizona; and Williamsburg, Virginia.
