J. Matthew McInnis

J. Matthew McInnis is the Member of Policy Planning covering Iran. He was previously a resident fellow at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), focusing on Middle East foreign and defense policy issues, and authoring the monograph The Future of Iran’s Security Policy: Inside Tehran’s Strategic Thinking. Prior to joining AEI, Mr. McInnis served for fifteen years in the Department of Defense in senior intelligence and advisory positions on Iran, Iraq, the larger Middle East, counter proliferation and East Asia security issues. Most notably, he was the Senior Expert for Iran at US Central Command under Generals David Petraeus, John Allen and James Mattis. Mr. McInnis holds a BA in International Studies from Eckerd College, an MA in European Studies from New York University, and an MA in International Relations from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS).
