Henry Ensher assumed the duty of Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Pakistan on October 1, 2018. Mr. Ensher previously served as the Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Afghanistan since October 2, 2017.

Ensher’s other assignments include Chief of Mission at the U.S. Mission to International Organizations in Vienna; Ambassador of the United States to Algeria (2011-2014); Senior Civilian Representative-South at Kandahar Air Field, Afghanistan (2010-2011); Director of the Office of Afghanistan Affairs (2008-2010); Political Advisor at Central Command (2007-2008); Chair of Near East and North Africa Area Studies and Coordinator for Iraq and Afghanistan Provincial Reconstruction Team training at the Foreign Service Institute (2006-2007); Deputy Political Counselor in Baghdad, Iraq (2004-2005); and Governance Coordinator in Qadisiyah Province, Iraq (2003-2004).

He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.
