David Meale is the Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Counter Threat Finance and Sanctions as well as the Office Director for Sanctions Policy and Implementation. He is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service and joined the Department of State in 1992. Mr. Meale spent much of 2017 as the Associate Dean for the Leadership and Management School at the Foreign Service Institute in Washington, DC. Prior to that, he was the Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Dhaka, Bangladesh (2014-17).
Mr. Meale’s previously served as Counselor for Economic Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv, Ukraine; Deputy Director of the Office of Monetary Affairs in the Economic Bureau; and additional positions in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Guinea, and Washington.
Prior to his Foreign Service Career, Mr. Meale held positions in corporate finance with Sprint Telecommunications. He has an MS from the National Defense University’s Eisenhower School, an MBA from Tulane University, and a BA from the University of Delaware. He has studied Ukrainian, Chinese, and French at the Foreign Service Institute.
