First Lady Melania Trump and Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Thomas A. Shannon To Honor International Women of Courage
First Lady Melania Trump and Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Thomas A. Shannon will present the 2017 Secretary of State’s International Women of Courage (IWOC) Award during a ceremony at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 29, at the U.S. Department of State.
This award honors women who have demonstrated exceptional courage, strength, and leadership in acting to improve others’ lives. It is an extraordinary opportunity to bring international attention and support to women who have put their lives and/or personal safety at risk in order to improve their communities. Through IWOC, now in its eleventh year, the U.S. Department of State has honored over 100 courageous women from more than 60 countries.
The 2017 winners of the award will be announced on Wednesday, March 29.

The ceremony will be livestreamed on state.gov.
For the ceremony, pre-set time for cameras is from 6:00 a.m.-6:30 a.m. from the 23rd Street entrance. Final access time for writers and stills is 10:15 a.m. from the 23rd Street entrance.
Media representatives may attend these events upon presentation of one of the following: (1) A U.S. Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) a letter from their employer on letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification card (driver's license, passport).
