The United States and Japan emphasized their commitment to strengthening energy security and promoting energy access during the second meeting of the Japan-United States Strategic Energy Partnership in Tokyo, Japan, on October 24, 2018. The United States and Japan committed to work together to promote open and competitive energy markets, including the development of a global market for natural gas. They also confirmed the importance of working closely to expand public-private partnerships and foster business-to-business connections. A broad range of U.S. and Japanese government agencies identified avenues to expand cooperation to advance energy sector development that promotes regional integration and adheres to principles of good governance, respect for the interests of all stakeholders, and transparency in bidding and financing.
