POST: Republic of Mauritius and Republic of Seychelles

CANDIDATE: David Dale Reimer

David Dale Reimer, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, class of Counselor, is currently the Director, Office of West African Affairs, Bureau of African Affairs, Department of State, a position he has held since 2015. A former Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) and Office Director, Mr. Reimer is known for his extensive knowledge of Africa and his outstanding leadership skills, particularly in high-threat environments and within the interagency community. His outstanding communication skills resulted in a nomination for DCM of the Year for improving post morale. He is an excellent candidate to serve concurrently as U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Mauritius and the Republic of Seychelles.

Previously, Mr. Reimer served as Assessor, Board of Examiners, Bureau of Human Resources, Department of State (2014-2015) and as Deputy Chief of Mission, U.S. Embassy Nouakchott, Mauritania (2012-2014). He was Senior Refugee Coordinator, U.S. Embassy Baghdad, Iraq (2011-2012), Deputy Director, Africa Bureau/Office of East African Affairs, Department of State (2009-2011), Refugee and Migration Officer, U.S. Mission Geneva, Switzerland (2006-2009), Economic Officer, U.S. Embassy Port-au-Prince, Haiti (2004-2006) and Economic Officer, U.S. Consulate Milan, Italy (2000-2003). He was a Financial Economist, Economic Bureau/Office of Monetary Affairs, Department of State (1998-2000), undertook long-term economic training at the Foreign Service Institute, Arlington, Virginia (1997-1998) and served as a Staff Assistant, Economic Bureau, Department of State (1996-1997). Prior overseas postings included the U.S. Embassy, Bonn, Germany and the U.S. Embassy, Belize City, Belize. From 1986-1991, he was an International Affairs Specialist, Office of International Cooperation and Development, U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Mr. Reimer earned an M.P.I.A. from the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1985 and a B.A. from Goshen College, Goshen, Indiana in 1984. He has received eight top State Department performance awards. His languages are French, Italian and German.
