HomeOffice of the SpokespersonPress Releases...Return of Yezidi Victims’ Remains to Kocho, Sinjar hide Return of Yezidi Victims’ Remains to Kocho, Sinjar Press Statement Ned Price, Department Spokesperson February 6, 2021 Today, the UN Investigative Team to Promote Accountability for Crimes Committed by Da’esh/ISIL (UNITAD) worked with the Government of Iraq to return the remains of 104 Yezidis to Kocho, Sinjar to be laid to rest by their loved ones. The United States stands with the Yezidis in mourning for their community members massacred by ISIS six years ago. The evidence that UNITAD gathered from the site will help achieve justice for those who suffered from the horrors of ISIS. Since UNITAD’s creation in 2017, the U.S. government has provided almost $9 million to its budget in order to collect, preserve, and store evidence of ISIS atrocities.
