Marcelo Pecci was a successful specialized organized crime prosecutor in Paraguay, obtaining
convictions in highly publicized cases involving narcotics trafficking, money laundering, and corruption.
Pecci recently married in Asunción and embarked with his new wife on a honeymoon to Cartagena,
Colombia. On the morning of May 10, 2022, Pecci and his wife were on the beach when Pecci was
assassinated by gunshot.
Subsequent investigation by the Colombian National Police in Cartagena quickly produced noteworthy
results. Video surveillance and immediate canvassing of the area by police helped identify the assassin,
two lookouts, and two transporters who brought the gunman to the beach where the murder took
place. A sixth individual was identified as the hit team organizer. Five of the six individuals were
arrested in Colombia and quickly convicted and sentenced to 23 ½ years of imprisonment. One of the
transporters remains a fugitive. Investigators are also seeking those individuals believed to have hired
the hit team in Colombia.
As a result, the U.S. Department of State is offering a REWARD OF UP TO $5 MILLION for information
leading to the arrest and/or conviction of the remaining unknown co-conspirators responsible for the
murder of Marcelo Pecci.
