The following is attributable to Spokesperson Ned Price:

Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken spoke today with Japanese Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa about Russia’s premeditated, unprovoked, and unjustified attack on Ukraine in violation of international law.  Secretary Blinken thanked Foreign Minister Hayashi for Japan’s enaction of sanctions on Russia, as well as Japan’s efforts to help build a coalition of partners – who represent more than half of the global economy – to amplify the joint impact of our response.  The Secretary and the Foreign Minister reaffirmed, together with allies and partners in Europe, that we will support the Ukrainian people and impose severe costs and consequences that hold Russia accountable for its invasion of Ukraine.
