Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken spoke today with Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billström. The Secretary and the Foreign Minister underscored their shared commitment to the Transatlantic partnership and the strong bilateral relationship between the United States and Sweden. The Secretary reaffirmed U.S. support for Sweden and Finland’s NATO accession and the importance of remaining Allies quickly ratifying their accession. He underscored the strong U.S. belief that Sweden and Finland are ready to join the Alliance. The United States welcomes Sweden’s leadership on shared policy goals while it holds the Council of the European Union presidency from January to June 2023.
