Secretary Blinken spoke with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to discuss the upcoming NATO Summit in Vilnius and the latest developments in Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine. The Secretary emphasized that now is the time for Sweden to formally join the NATO Alliance, and for the U.S. and Türkiye to further strengthen our longstanding defense cooperation. The Secretary raised the urgent need to renew the UN cross-border humanitarian assistance mechanism for Syria for 12 months. The Secretary thanked Türkiye for its leadership on this issue.
