Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken spoke today with UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay to underscore U.S. appreciation for the outcome of the organization’s recent extraordinary session of the General Conference, during which member states accepted the U.S. proposal for a return to UNESCO with full membership privileges.  The Secretary further thanked the Director-General for her leadership in guiding that process toward a successful outcome.  The Secretary indicated to the Director-General that the United States was addressing next steps toward formally rejoining UNESCO.
