Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken met Tuesday with UN Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg to discuss the situation in Yemen and the urgent need for a durable resolution to the conflict. The Secretary and the Special Envoy spoke about the steps required to end the Yemen conflict as soon as possible and resolve the humanitarian and economic crises facing Yemen, even and especially as the Middle East region faces other challenges. Secretary Blinken underscored U.S. sustained support for an inclusive UN-mediated, Yemeni-Yemeni political dialogue and reiterated that Yemen now has an unprecedented opportunity for peace – he thanked the UN Special Envoy for his tireless efforts in this regard.
