Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken met yesterday with UN Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg in Washington, D.C.  The Secretary and Special Envoy discussed U.S.-UN coordination in promoting the ongoing, UN-led peace effort in Yemen.  Secretary Blinken conveyed his gratitude for the Special Envoy’s leadership in advancing a durable end to the war, in lockstep with intensive U.S. diplomacy.  He also recognized the UN’s achievement, directly supported through U.S. diplomatic engagement, in securing the April 2022 truce and the ensuing calm, which laid the foundation for the ongoing talks.  The Secretary and Special Envoy reiterated their shared commitment to building upon this calm to ensure an inclusive, Yemeni-led political process that includes Yemenis’ calls for justice, accountability, and redress for human rights violations and abuses.
