SECRETARY POMPEO:  Thank you for joining us on the trip.  It’s going to be a wonderful trip.  It’s supporting something we’ve been working on for a long time to put together.  To meet with our Quad partners is a project we’ve been preparing for.  We’re hoping to have some significant announcements, significant achievements.

QUESTION:  What kind of significant announcements are you expecting to —

SECRETARY POMPEO:  There’s just a lot of work to do and we’ll all have to come back and, when we finish, work with our leaders to make sure we all have it right.  But it was really important, the timing of this is important, and I’m glad we’re able to put it all together and make it happen this week.

QUESTION:  Is there gonna be more stops apart from Japan?”

SECRETARY POMPEO:  I’m sorry.  I didn’t understand the question.

QUESTION:  Is there gonna be more stops apart from Japan?  May you be going to Taiwan?

SECRETARY POMPEO:  So you’ve seen the places we’re planning to go.

QUESTION:  Yes.  Also, you were going to brief the President earlier today.  Could you tell us what you talked about and could you tell us how his health was?

SECRETARY POMPEO:  Yeah, I did get a chance to talk with the President at some length today, and the – I think he spoke with his entire national security team today.  Look, this is a team – I’ve been working for this President for almost four years now – this is a team that is mature and capable.  We’re fully prepared for all of the possibilities that may take place.  We had a good conversation.  I’m not going to say what it was about.  But we made sure that the President was fully up to speed on all the things happening around the world.  Got a little bit of additional guidance for this trip, now I’m looking forward to executing it.

QUESTION:  How was his spirits?

SECRETARY POMPEO:  His spirits were great.  He was in a great mood.  He was as direct and candid with me as he always is, and it was a great conversation.  I’m now looking forward to getting here and I told him I would give him a holler as soon as I was on my way back.

QUESTION:  Is there any concern, Mr. Secretary, about (inaudible) taking advantage of this moment with the President in the hospital?

SECRETARY POMPEO:  This is a team that’s ready.  Look, the message that I’ve gotten from around the world – I’ve talked to, goodness, more than half a dozen world leaders over the last few days – was all to tell the President and the First Lady to get well and get healthy.  We know there’s rogue actors, we know there’s malign actors around the world.  The United States is fully prepared, both the State Department and our diplomats.  I was with General Milley this afternoon.  Everyone’s ready.

Great.  Thanks, everybody.

QUESTION:  Thank you.

SECRETARY POMPEO:  Safe travels.
