Secretary Pompeo reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to our bilateral relationship and, in particular, they discussed the importance of the October 17 U.S.-Turkish Joint Statement. The Secretary noted our position requiring that the Turkish military, the Turkish-supported Syrian Opposition forces, and the withdrawal of YPG forces be in accordance with the statement regarding the safe zone. The Secretary emphasized the need for all parties to adhere to the spirit and letter of the statement in order to address our mutual interests and concerns in Syria.
