Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo met today with Omani Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, in Washington, D.C.  Secretary Pompeo thanked the Minister for Oman’s partnership, including its recent participation in the Middle East Strategic Alliance General Conference and for Oman’s cooperation on security and counterterrorism issues.  On Yemen, Secretary Pompeo and the Minister discussed the recent agreement between the Republic of Yemen government and the Southern Transition Council, facilitated by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.  The Secretary and the Minister agreed that only a political solution would bring an end to the conflict and ensure peace, prosperity, and security in Yemen.  They also discussed the importance of a united Gulf Cooperation Council to advancing prosperity, security, and stability in the region.
