Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo met December 19 for the first time with Colombian Foreign Minister Claudia Blum. Secretary Pompeo and Foreign Minister Blum discussed the excellent bilateral relationship the United States shares with Colombia and issues of mutual concern, such as countering narcotics trafficking. Secretary Pompeo reaffirmed U.S. support for President Duque’s efforts to facilitate a peaceful national dialogue. The Secretary reiterated our esteem for and gratitude to the Colombian people and government, who are now hosting 1.63 million Venezuelan refugees because of the corruption, repression, and disastrous policies of Maduro and his associates.
