On behalf of the United States of America, I congratulate the people and Government of Somalia on your 63rd National Day.

The United States commends Somalia’s progress in defeating terrorism and building peace and stability through reconciliation. The United States looks forward to strengthening the bonds of our partnership as we work together on governance, reconciliation, inclusive economic growth, and resiliency to drought and other climatic shocks. On this anniversary, I welcome continued focus on political reconciliation and preparations for Somalia to assume security responsibility from the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia.

The United States wishes the people of Somalia a peaceful and prosperous year ahead.
