The Office of Technical Security Engineering (TSE) plays an essential role in advancing U.S. diplomacy and meeting security demands. Our mission is to train Diplomatic Security Service (DSS) professionals to protect U.S. personnel, facilities, and sensitive information against acts of crime, terrorism, and technical espionage.

TSE is the primary provider of technical security training for security engineering officers, security technical specialists, Naval Support Unit personnel (“Seabees”), DSS security professionals, and other U.S. Department of State personnel. The following specialized training focuses on the management, operations, design, installation, and maintenance/repair of technical security systems to secure information and property worldwide.

Countermeasures & Construction Security (CCS)

  • Advanced courses in technical surveillance countermeasures (TSCM) for security engineering officers.
  • Technical espionage awareness training on threats posed by specific intelligence collection techniques for U.S. Department of State personnel.
  • Fundamental construction security training to deter, detect, and prevent compromising penetrations at construction sites for U.S. Department of State facilities overseas.

Network Security Systems (NSS)

  • Advanced technical security training courses in video analytics, high-definition systems, video compression, video management systems, and network video recorders to support U.S. Department of State initiatives to upgrade and sustain high-definition internet-based video systems overseas.
  • Intermediate networking security training to manage the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of the High-Definition Secure Video Systems (HDSVS) network, particularly edge devices.
  • Intermediate and advanced technical training courses supporting internet protocol-based technical security systems.

Technical Training Systems (TTS)

  • Instructor-led, laboratory-based, technical security training on operating, designing, installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing DSS-approved technical security systems.
  • Operator-level training teaches the regional security officers, post security officers, and unit security officers on a multitude of technical security equipment to include how DSS incorporates these into its layered defensive philosophy.
