The Global Engagement Center’s Acting Coordinator Speaks at Foreign Policy Virtual Dialogue Event
April 15, 2021
“There are effective tools out there that leverage predictive analytics, but I’d say even beyond that, it’s identifying a range of partners. If I could really use one word to characterize the whole philosophical approach of the Global Engagement Center, it’s partnerships…I wouldn’t underestimate the power of partnerships, detection, inoculation, particularly if we stick to our ideals, stick to our principles and take the high road.”
–Daniel Kimmage, Acting Coordinator for the Global Engagement Center at the U.S. Department of State
Foreign Policy, in partnership with Dataminr, convened a forward-looking conversation on diplomacy and international crisis mitigation in the digital age. Discussion focused on how the future of diplomatic engagement, crisis intervention and humanitarian action will be shaped by technological advances including AI and machine learning. The GEC’s Acting Coordinator spoke, among other things, on the GEC’s efforts to advance technologies and techniques to counter threats as well as anticipate propaganda and disinformation efforts that leverage advances in AI and machine learning.
