CANDIDATE: Pamela M. Tremont

Pamela Tremont is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, class of Minister-Counselor. She currently is assigned as the Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in Stockholm, Sweden and had the additional responsibility of serving as Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. for 18 months. Previously, Ms. Tremont was assigned first as Assistance Coordinator, and then as Deputy Chief of Mission, of the U.S. Embassy Kyiv, Ukraine. Prior to that, she served as Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in Nicosia, Cyprus. She has also held positions as Deputy Director for NATO Policy, Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, in the State Department, Political/Economic Counselor of the U.S. Embassy Lusaka, Zambia, and as Political Military Officer in the U.S. Embassy London, United Kingdom. Ms. Tremont’s three decades as a career diplomat, her demonstrated success as a leader, and her wide-ranging experience across multiple regions and substantive areas make her a well-qualified candidate to serve as U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Zimbabwe.

Among her other assignments, Ms. Tremont has represented the State Department as a student at the National Defense University, served as Political Military Officer at the U.S. Embassy Ankara, Turkey, as a Desk Officer for South Africa in the Bureau of African Affairs, and as a Watch Officer in the State Department’s Operations Center. She also was posted to assignments in Port Louis, Mauritius and Calgary, Canada.

Ms. Tremont earned her B.A. and M.A. degrees from Baylor University and is the recipient of multiple State Department performance awards and the James A. Baker III – C. Howard Wilkins, Jr. Award for Outstanding Deputy Chief of Mission. She also received the U.S. Army Commander’s Award for Civilian Service. She speaks French and Turkish.
